PSYCHOCREATIVITY - my psychotherapy system - is a synthesis of:

  • talk focused therapy focusing on a deep psychotherapy process

  • existential psychology including Buddhist and Yogic - that clarifies our purpose in life that is specific to you

  • meditative therapy focusing on mindfulness, self-compassion and connection

  • creative therapies such as art, dance, writing, photography

  • play therapy for adults as well as children

  • deep ecological process with particular focus on water-based therapy

  • cognitive behavioral therapies focusing on commitment to actions to achieve aims and goals

  • pioneering research in science, including biology and neuroscience

PSYCHOCREATIVITY focuses on cultivating 12 key components:

  • Authenticity and Self-Knowing

  • Belonging and Connection

  • Purpose: Living meaningful lives based on our deepest universal needs and core values

  • Awareness: Mindful awareness of the present moment, where we understand that we are not our thoughts

  • Caring: Caring of self and others through action and developing an inner voice that is not critical but compassionate

  • Self-Accepetance: Honoring and embracing the totality of our being and experience : “all parts of my self are welcome”

  • Letting go of Outcomes, while still being motivated to realize one’s goals

  • Savoring, Gratitude and Self-Appreciation

  • Rest

  • Creativity

  • Child-like Play

  • Fun

These are a matrix of inter-acting and overlapping components, which I explain below.

The orginality is in the inter-disciplinary methodology and the emotional tone that I bring to the sessions.

This emotional tone is based on the principles of PCT Person-Centered Therapy:

  • Unconditional Positive Regard for you as the client

  • Accurate Empathy: active and compassionate istening, paying careful attention to your feelings and thoughts

  • Congruence: I authentically convey my feelings and thoughts to genuinely relate to you and your feelings- scroll down for details - based on research, evidence and experience.

I adapt it according to your needs, using only what is useful and valuable to you.

We work on this together. For example, if you connect most to dance, the therapy becomes dance oriented. If talking is what you need we talk. If Mindfulness supports you to deal better with pain I guide and train you in mindful activity and meditation. If water can soothe your being, we work in water.

SESSION TIMES

1 to 4 sessions a week - depending on your need - of 50 Minutes each for an initial program of 10 sessions. These can be online or in-person. Some clients prefer double sessions of 100 minutes which can be arranged.

MIND FLOW YOGA: can be one of the tools and I utilize in Psychotherapy.

PSYCHOCREATIVITY is an integrated scientific System rooted in an understanding of the profound inter-connection of Body, Brain, Mind, Social and Natural world. This inter-connection is known as The BioPsychosocial Model. It is also called The Biopsychsocioecological Model. This is the foundation of Psychosomatic Medicine.

My holistic Psychotherapy involves deep inner work and outer committed action.

RESHAPE THE MIND TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE

Rewiring the Brain

We cannot stop the waves of life

but we can learn to surf them

I train you in a number of techniques that enable behavioral change, greater mental/psychological flexibility, and a rewiring of the brain.

Neuroscience teaches us that our brains naturally give greater focus on “negative” and potentially harming experience than “positive” satisfying experience.

While this enables our physical survival the brain works on autopilot using this methodology for our emotional world and self-concept.

Almost all of us need an intentional and regular practice to counteract this “negativty bias”, in an increasingly uncertain, stressful and anxiety provoking world.

“Positive Thinking” alone is insufficient as it generally is working on the conscious level and not addressing our unconscious, deeper and less rational feelings about our self.

I can train you, beyond Positive Thinking, to develop a “Positivity Bias” as a basic trait of your life and daily living.

These are scientifically evidenced to impact significantly on your mental health, your sense of wellbeing and your wellness if undertaken daily over a sustained period: small actions consistently completed can create significant change.

MINDFULNESS AND FREEDOM

Mindfulness is part of the process of “rewiring the brain”.

Simply stated it means

The Awareness, Insight and Care that arises

through being present and alert

without harsh critical judgment

to what ever arises moment by moment:

thoughts, feelings, body sensations, the world around the body -

Mindfulness in daily life thinking processes, Mindfulness Meditation and non-meditative Mindfulness exercises support you to be:

  • More Present

  • Less harshly Judgmental including of yourself

  • Less enslaved by destructive thoughts and feelings

  • More Free, moment by moment, to choose what really serves you

This reduces Stress related to past events and Anxiety about what may or may not happen in the future.

You do not have to formally meditate to experience Mindfulness and I teach you these skills. Art therapies, ecological therapies, actions in daily life, and other processes, can teach us to be more mindful and have the quality of mindfulness without even formal meditation.

In a research study in North America, nearly 80% of people found it easier to care for others than themselves.

We need to develop greater Self-Care and Self-Caring.

I train you skills in “Self-Befriending” and “Self-Compassion” that help you to feel

  • A greater sense of Belonging

  • Self-Sufficiency: so that you can I fee basically all right whether in good circumstances or bad

  • Belonging when difficult moments provoke us to isolate and have an inner critical voice.

These techniques consist of both secular meditative practices and non-meditative self-compassionate exercises. You do not have to be experienced in meditation, or meditate at all, to make Self-Compassion a basic way of living in daily life.

Research shows that Self-Compassionate people generally are:

  • Greater Achievers

  • Healthier

  • Better able to take perspectives

  • More Resilient: better able to cope with tough situations like Divorce, Trauma or Chronic Pain. and do not beat themselves up when they “fail”

  • More caring-and supportive of others without sacrificing themselves

MY METHODOLOGY

My Methodology involves:

  • A specific deep psychological process of inquiry: helping you clarify what is most meaningful in your life, what your core values are;

  • Assisting you then to formulate a plan of concerted daily actions to help you live that rich life; and then supporting you to remain committed to those actions, including support between sessions. 

  • Integrating evidenced-based approaches and insights from Neuroscience, Psychotherapy, Mindfulness and Compassion-based Meditation, Philosophy, Deep Ecology, Art, Life Coaching and Mentoring.

  • Providing you with clear methodologies to overcome some of the obstacles to cultivating that daily program of actions.

  • My ability to read personal situations and tailor methodologies to your needs: helping you to become your own best teacher and your own best friend.

  • Unconditional, Non-Judgmental Acceptance of You as a person, whoever you are, wherever you are at in Life: wholeheartedly supporting you through almost inevitable wobbles you will have on this journey.

PSYCHOTHERAPY IS NOT SIMPLY MEETING ONCE A WEEK

My Psychotherapy/Psychocreativity is not simply one meeting a week (typically) with me.

It involves committed action on daily basis to a deep and daily transformational process.

It involves Home Practices and Exercises between sessions

I provide additional support in this period where required.


THE HOLISTIC PROCESS

The Holistic Process involves:

  • Helping you to reflect and understand yourself better including your history and social causes; and your current relationship with the society and environment that you find yourself in

  • Better understanding what are your goals, based deepest universal needs, alongside your core personal values

  • Identifying what actions you need to take to live the most fulfilled life possible in your circumstances

  • My providing a rigorous interrogative process, as well as appropriate supportive tools and information within my own philosophical and psychotherapeutic and creative framework, to help enable you to take actions and make necessary changes to evolve the life you wish to live.

  • You undertaking daily activities exercises and where appropriate meditative practices, including writing a daily reflective journal on your therapeutic journey which you share with me. I respond and then we then explore further in sessions

  • You are invited to come to each session, reflecting beforehand what you may wish to discuss and explore

  • You are invited to bring to each session, a pen/pencil and paper. If you wish to please bring paint brush, paints and paper or other creative material which can be utilized in the process. If meeting in-person, I supply these.
